If you’re just starting out with your business or if your business recently switched to accepting card payments, you might be wondering how to install and set up a countertop card machine. This guide will take you through the process step-by-step and provide best practices for maintaining your machine.
Step 1: Pre-installation requirements
The very first step in the installation process is to make that you have:
- stable internet connection (this is an absolute must because your machine needs to connect to the internet in order to process transactions),
- a power outlet near your chosen location for the machine and
- sturdy and accessible counter space for the machine.
Step 2: Unpack and inspect
Once you have confirmed that your business meets the pre-installation requirements, it’s time to unpack and inspect your countertop card machine. Check for any missing parts or physical damage. If everything looks good, go ahead and proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Installation
First, lay the terminal down on a flat surface and gently push the two tabs upwards to take off the back cover. Once that’s done, remove the cable so you can manage the connections better.
Start by threading the black power supply cable to the right side of the tidy area and plug it into the back of the terminal. If you need to connect a telephone line, thread the telephone cable through the tidy area as well and plug it into the socket marked with the blue LINE label.
For internet access, thread the network cable to the left side and connect it to the socket labelled LAN. Once everything is connected, replace the cable tidy and press the rear cover back on until you hear a ‘click’.
Finally, connect the telephone cable to the phone socket and plug in the network cable if you are using an internet connection.
Step 4: Testing and troubleshooting
Now it’s time to see if your countertop card machine is working correctly. Hold the power button and wait for the machine to start up. When it’s ready, try processing a small transaction amount, just like you would for a customer.
If it processes without any problems, great job! Your machine is all set up and good to go.
But if you do run into any trouble while testing or later on, check the troubleshooting section in your user manual or reach out to customer support for help.
